Mangaluru, Jun 2, 2026: Amid growing speculation over a possible cabinet reshuffle in Karnataka and reports suggesting that Legislative Assembly Speaker U.T. Khader is being considered for the post of Deputy Chief Minister, Khader said he has no official information regarding such developments.

Speaking to reporters in Mangaluru, Khader said he had only come across the reports through the media and had not received any communication from the government or the party.

“I have seen the reports in the media, but I have no information about it. I am continuing as the Speaker and I am not an aspirant for any post,” he said.

Khader added that decisions regarding cabinet positions and responsibilities are entirely the prerogative of the government and the party leadership. “It is for the party and the government to decide who should be given which responsibility. If they entrust me with any position, it will be based on an assessment of my work so far,” he said.

Recalling developments after the 2023 Assembly elections, Khader noted that there had been expectations that he might be inducted into the cabinet, but he was instead entrusted with the Speaker’s post.

“I was given the responsibility of Speaker, and I have discharged my duties with sincerity. For me, the work is important, not the position,” he said.

Khader also stated that he would refrain from commenting on political matters as long as he remains Speaker. “I will speak on political issues after I step down as Speaker,” he remarked.

Refuting reports of any competition with Housing Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan for a cabinet berth or higher office, Khader said there was no rivalry between them. “Politics is one thing and personal relationships are another. We meet as well-wishers,” he said.

The Speaker further said he was happy in his current role and described it as a prestigious responsibility for any legislator. “Every MLA should get an opportunity to serve as Speaker at least once in their lifetime. The party, workers and voters have helped me reach this position. I have fulfilled my responsibilities as Speaker for the last three years,” he added.
