Mangalore, Dec 18, 2013: A young housewife who was married just six months ago and had attempted suicide recently, breathed her last in the hospital on December 17, Tuesday.

It is alleged that the torture by her husband, a Bhajrangdal activist and in-laws had driven her to the extreme step.
The deceased is TM Sumitha hailing from Polali. It is learnt she had entered into wedlock with Sunil Kumar, a Bhajrangdal man from Pump well in May this year.
According to sources, Sumitha’s family had paid enough dowry and valuables at the time of wedding but still the young woman was continuously harassed and tortured both physically and mentally.
It has been learnt that on December 9, Sumitha had consumed as much as 100 tablets and had to be rushed to the hospital where she battled for life for a few days. Sumitha had reportedly given her statement to the police before her death and had explained about the torture meted to her in her husband’s family.
Sumitha’s brother Mohan said before marriage they were made to believe that Sunil was as a good natured man with no bad habits but it was only later that they came to know that he was addicted to many vices.
Sumitha’s brother also told that Sunil used to force his sister to serve liquor to his friends till late night and was also demanding more dowry.
Bantwal rural police had initially registered a case against Sunil, his mother Leela, sister Divya and father. The case now stands shifted to Mangalore rural police station.
