Beltangady, Oct 4, 2012 : Health Minister Aravind Limbavalli told reporters that a survey will be conducted by the end of October, on the basis of which the government package for Endosulphan victims will be implemented. The survey will be conducted by a committee headed by the district medical officer and the deputy commissioner, he added.
The health minister had visited a temporary rehabilitation camp for Endosulphan victims in Kokkada on Oct 3, Wednesday.
Further, he said that DC Dr. Channappa Gowda has explained the situation to the state government. As per statistics, the region has 510 Endosulphan victims, but a local social worker called Shridhar Gowda claims that there are 6,500 victims, owing to which a survey will be conducted to find out exactly how many Endosulphan victims the region has. The government will assist Endosulphan victims as per the Kerala model, he added.
In response to a reporter’s query, the minister said that the government has identified a 5-acre plot for the construction of a permanent rehabilitation centre for Endosulphan victims in Alankar, adding that more centres will be constructed in other areas if required. Endosulphan victims will be provided facilities such as mobile hospital, Ayurveda panchakarma treatment, ambulance service, psychotherapy, and more, he added.
A young female Endosulphan victim welcomed the minister with a flower. The minister interacted with a number of victims, one of who told him that he earns Rs. 20 per day making incense sticks. Limbavalli said that the government will no longer delay in assisting the Endosluphan victims.
Visually impaired social worker Shridhar Gowda suggested that the survey committee must have government experts, adding that women doctors and volunteers should be appointed to help victims with sexual problems.
DC Dr. N. S. Channappa Gowda, Poovaje Kushalappa Gowda, and BJP leader Prathap Sinha Nayak were also present.
