Bengaluru, May 3, 2025: Amid rising outrage in political circles following the killing of a Hindu activist in Mangaluru, Assembly Speaker U T Khader on Friday sought to quell rumours of Suhas Shetty’s murder having been committed in retribution for the death of Fazil.
Khader, interacting with journalists, said that he had spoken to Fazil’s father and brothers, who had assured him of having no connection with Shetty’s murder.
“They told me that they had no intention to retaliate. They have left everything to God,” Khader, also Mangalore MLA, added.
Dismissing suggestions of Shetty’s murder having been committed over religious tensions, Khader said, “Shetty’s murder was the result of a personal grudge, and rivalry between two groups.”
Expressing confidence in the police unearthing the truth, the Speaker added, “Fazil’s family members have assured me that they will co-operate with the police. The culprits must be arrested, and the public must stay calm, to ensure the probe into the murder is conducted without trouble.”
Khader appealed to the public to maintain peace in the coastal region, adding that he had discussed Shetty’s murder with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, besides asking the Home Department to step up security in the region to prevent violence.
