Mangaluru police recover 233 lost mobile phones in 45 days

Mangaluru, Oct 31, 2025: In a major achievement, the Mangaluru City Police have successfully traced and recovered 233 mobile phones lost by the public between September 15 and October 30 within the city police commissionerate limits. The recovered phones were handed over to their rightful owners at the Police Commissioner’s office on Friday.

Speaking at a press meet, DCP Mithun H. N. said that a special team was formed to trace lost and stolen mobile phones. The team’s continuous efforts helped track and return the phones to the public through the CEIR (Central Equipment Identity Register) portal.

He further explained that citizens who lose their mobile phones can block them through the CEIR module on the Sanchar Saathi portal, launched in 2022. To block a device, users must provide details such as the IMEI number, original invoice, mobile model, and mobile number.

Through the Sanchar Saathi portal, the public can also report suspicious or international calls, check whether a handset is genuine or counterfeit, and verify how many SIM cards are active under their Aadhaar number. If any unauthorized SIM is found, it can be deactivated. The portal also helps users stay updated on cybercrime awareness. DCP Mithun H. N. urged citizens to make effective use of this facility.
