Mangaluru: Apollo Ocean brings 17,600 MT LPG to boost fuel supply amid West Asia concerns

Mangaluru, Mar 27, 2026: In a major boost to Mangaluru’s fuel security, a massive LPG tanker named Apollo Ocean, which set sail from Gujarat, arrived at the New Mangalore Port on Wednesday night. The vessel carried around 17,600 metric tonnes of LPG, with the consignment belonging to Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL) and Bharat Petroleum (BPCL).

Amid concerns over possible disruptions in gas supply due to the ongoing conflict in West Asia, the steady arrival of such vessels is expected to ensure that Karnataka and neighboring states do not face any LPG shortage. Recently, another ship, Pixis Pioneer, had delivered 16,714 tonnes of LPG from Texas, USA. The arrival of Apollo Ocean has further intensified port activity.

The Union Ministry of Shipping has waived cargo-related charges for LPG and crude oil vessels until March 31, encouraging increased fuel imports. Mangaluru is also home to the country’s largest underground LPG storage facility, with a capacity of 80,000 metric tonnes, making it well-equipped to handle such large imports. This significantly reduces the likelihood of any cooking gas shortage in the region in the coming days.
