Mangaluru, May 3 2025: The bandh called by Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) protesting the killing of murder-accused Suhas Shetty in the hands of a group of people at Bajpe on Thursday passed off peacefully in Dakshina Kannada district except a couple of random attacks on people on Friday, May 2.
Buses, private as well as KSRTC and city as well as long-distance, remained off the roads thereby severely inconveniencing the general public. Those who arrived Mangaluru and other parts of Dakshina Kannada early in the morning remained off guard as they did not get connecting services.
Attendance was thin in offices, government as well as private and establishments as large number of employees depended on bus services for their regular commute. Hundreds of students bore the brunt as they remained stranded midway on the way to their institutions.
Shops and establishments shut their shutters across the district in response to the bandh call. Even the milk supply was affected while many milk booths remained closed. Only pharmacies functioned normally. By evening, a few shops and establishments opened the shutters.
Miscreants pelted stones on three private buses, one in Mulki and two at Pumpwell and six KSRTC buses in the city early in the morning damaging their wind shields.
Autorickshaws too did not ply across the district aggravating the agony of travelling public.
