Mangalore, Oct 27, 2012: The Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy will organize an awards ceremony at Shri Manjunath Pai Cultural Hall in Karkala on Nov 11.
Addressing the press at the office of the academy in Lalbagh, President Kasargod Chinna said that the Honorary Awards will be conferred on S. M. Krishna Rao (Konkani language and literature), Baabi Nayak (Konkani folk), and Harry D’Souza (Konkani art). The Book Awards will be conferred on Maxi G. Pinto for his Satham Khatham, an essay compilation; Ronald Vaz for his anthology of poems Awaaz; and Ron Michael for his Konkani short story Vodthanthle Gulob.

The Konkani Youth Award will be conferred on Mahadevi Kulal for pottery art, Vilas Nayak for painting, and Mahalaxmi Shenoy for classical singing.
The Honorary Award comprises a cash prize of Rs. 10,000 and the Book Award will comprise a cash prize of Rs. 5000. All award winners will receive citations and mementos.
A slide show of all the programs conducted by the academy during the past sixth months was shown on this occasion.
He also said that a Janapada Yathra will be held on Nov 10, a day before the awards ceremony. MLA Gopal Bhandary, Deputy Speaker N. Yogish Bhat, Muzrai Minister Kota Shrinivas Poojary, MLC Captain Ganesh Karnik, Dayanand Pai of Century Group, and writer Vally Vogga will be present.
The academy will organize Konkani Mahotsav from Nov 22 to Nov 25 in Town Hall. Various cultural programs will form part of the event, he said. A Janapad celebration will be held on Oct 22, women’s programs on Oct 23, programs for college students on Oct 24, and a musical night on Oct 25, he added.
He also announced that the academy will hold a national Konkani Film Festival in the first week of January.
Registrar Devdas Pai and academy members Ashok Shet, Roy Castelino, Rajaram Nayak, Mahesh Nayak, and many others were present.
