Bangalore, May 18, 2013: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah today expanded his Cabinet with the induction of 28 Ministers. Four Ministers from coastal Karnataka. (Three from DK and One from Udupi) U T Khadar (Mangalore), Ramanath Rai (Bantwal), Vinay Kumar Sorake (Kaup) and Abhaychandra Jain (Moodbidri) take oath as ministers in Siddaramaiah cabinet on Saturday, 11 am, May 18, 2013.

The team is a mix of old and new faces - it includes seniors RV Deshpande and actor-turned-politician Ambareesh and young leaders like Dinesh Gundu Rao and Krishna Byre Gowda. There is a lone woman representative, actress Umashree.

 

Twenty were made Cabinet Ministers and eight Ministers of State.They were administered oath of office by Governor H R Bhardwaj at a ceremony at Glass House at Raj Bhavan.

Those made Cabinet ministers are R V Deshpande, Qamar-ul-Islam, Prakash B Hukkeri, Ramalinga Reddy, T B Jayachandra, B Ramanath Rai, H K Patil, Shamanur Shivashankarappa, V Srinivasa Prasad, H C Mahadevappa, K J George, H S Mahadeva Prasad, M H Ambarish, Vinay Kumar Sorake, Baburao Chinchanasur, U T Khadar, Satish Jarkiholi, M B Patil, H Anjaneya and Shivaraj S Thangadagi.

The Ministers of State include Abhaychandra Jain, Dinesh Gundurao, Krishna Byregowda, Sharana Prakash Patil, Santosh Lad, Kimmane Ratnakar, Umashree and P T Parameshwar Naik.


Mining baron and Rajya Sabha member Anil Lad, elected from Bellary city, former Working President of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee D K Shivakumar and R Roshan Baig failed to make it, in the wake of some pressure from within Congress to start off with a "clean slate" by denying ministership to the "tainted". However, Anil’s cousin Santosh Lad was included in the Ministry.


Protests in Kanakapura over exclusion of D K Shiva Kumar from cabinet reported. MLCs also reportedly upset over the list of ministers. Motamma and R V Ventakesh leave for New Delhi.


Mr Siddaramaiah was unanimously elected by his party colleagues to head the government and was sworn in as Karnataka’s 22nd Chief Minister on May 13. Upon taking charge, the 64-year-old Mr Siddaramaiah had said that his priority was to ensure a "stable and able administration" and those with a clean image would find a place in his council of ministers.

 

The Ministry now has five vacancies as Siddaramaiah can accommodate a total of 33 ministers given the strength of the Assembly, which is 224.
