Shivamogga, Aug. 2, 2026: Three members of a migrant worker family, including a three-year-old boy, were killed and another man was seriously injured after a rain-triggered hillock collapsed on a workers’ shed at Gandhinagar near Seebinakere in Thirthahalli town during the early hours of Sunday.

Hillock Collapse in Thirthahalli

The deceased have been identified as Mallikarjun (30), his wife Nagaveni (27), and their son Santosh (3), all natives of Kakkaragola village in Gangavathi taluk of Koppal district. The injured, Hanumanth, has been admitted to McGann Hospital in Shivamogga.

The family had come to Thirthahalli for construction work and was staying in a temporary shed at the site.

Heavy rainfall over the past 48 hours triggered the collapse of the hillock onto the shed, where around 25 workers were sleeping. Rescue teams managed to evacuate 21 workers from the debris.

Rescue operations were hampered as the narrow approach road prevented earthmovers from reaching the site.

The Thirthahalli Town Police have registered a case and are investigating the incident.
