Mangaluru: Absconding warrant accused arrested after seven years

Mangaluru, Aug 3, 2026: Police have arrested a 33-year-old man who had been absconding for the past seven years after repeatedly failing to appear before the court in connection with more than 13 criminal cases.

The accused has been identified as Ummar Nawaf (33), a native of Margathale in Ullal taluk and currently residing at Gerukatte, Kundappu, under Pavoor Post in Manjeshwar, Kasaragod.

According to police, Nawaf was wanted in over 13 criminal cases and had been evading court proceedings for nearly seven years. The court had issued more than 30 non-bailable warrants against him during this period.

The cases against him include:

Ullal Police Station Crime No. 206/2012 under Sections 143, 147, 148, 323, 427, 504, 506 and 149 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Ullal Police Station Crime No. 27/2017 under Section 387 of the IPC.
Ullal Police Station Crime No. 183/2017 under Sections 143, 147, 148, 448, 504, 324, 323, 506, 427 read with Section 149 of the IPC, in which a proclamation had been issued by the court.
Ullal Police Station Crime No. 276/2015 under Sections 143, 144, 148, 448, 451, 452, 326, 307, 397, 506 and 149 of the IPC, in which the court had declared him a long-pending (LPC) accused.

Acting under the guidance of the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mangaluru South Sub-Division, a special team from the Mangaluru South Sub-Division Office tracked down and arrested the absconding accused on August 2.

Police said the accused will be produced before the court.
