Real Estate Pioneer Lancy Joseph Mascarenhas Passes Away at 77

Mangaluru, May 13, 2026: Lancy Joseph Mascarenhas, founder of Lancy Constructions and a leading figure in Mangaluru’s real estate and construction sector, passed away on Wednesday, May 13. He was 77.

Born on February 13, 1949, Lancy began his career in 1973 as a licensed plumber, taking up small repair and drainage works before emerging as a prominent civil contractor through dedication and quality workmanship.

His breakthrough came in 1982 with the construction of the ‘Dhanyavad’ building at Hampankatta junction, which established Lancy Constructions as a major name in the city. In 1984, he entered the apartment sector with the ‘Pompei Shade Apartments’.

Over the decades, he played a key role in shaping Mangaluru’s skyline through landmark commercial and residential projects, including Essel Centre, Empire building and Ebony. His business ventures later expanded to include Eljen Promoters, Nishaal Associates, Lancy Constructions Fibretech Doors, Lanshowel Earthmovers, Lanwall Blocks and Lanlocks.

Lancy was also widely respected for constructing places of worship across communities, including more than 25 churches, four mosques and three temples. His contributions extended to educational and healthcare infrastructure, including projects at St. Aloysius College, St. Joseph Engineering College, and Unity Health Complex Nursing School.

In 2006, he received the prestigious ‘Rachana Entrepreneur of the Year’ award for his contribution to the construction industry and ethical business practices.

He is survived by his wife Philomena Jacintha Mascarenhas and daughters Nishal Swetha Mascarenhas, Neleema Miriam Mascarenhas, and Neola Tressa Mascarenhas.
