The railway gate, which was supposed to be opened at 8:10 p.m., was not opened even after one hour past the scheduled time. The people who were waiting for the gate to open finally lost their cool and demanded that the gate should be opened immediately. When the guard refused to listen to them, they allegedly assaulted him and blocked the railway track, forcing a train to stop for a few minutes.
Circle Inspector Ravish Naik and SI Sudhakar then brought the situation under the control, and things finally got back to normal when the track was cleared at 9:20 p.m.
Station Master Santhosh told Sajeev Naik, head of the railway police, that this does not happen everyday, adding that there might be a delay in opening the gate if there are too many trains waiting to pass.
Mr. Naik urged Santhosh to create public awareness regarding this issue and to request the people to cooperate under such circumstances.
