Prof. Narahari, the president of the Association of Mangalore University College Teachers (AMUCT), said in his protest address that the government has been unjust by following a policy of different wages for PUC and Degree lectures although PUC teachers have the same qualifications as Degree teachers. Stating that lecturers have protested many times, he said that the government has chosen to ignore their demands, owing to which they have decided to intensify their protests.

He urged the elected representatives to support the lecturers. Stating that the Fifth Pay Commission suggested a hike in pay, he said that pay scales of lecturers in several states were raised. He demanded that the government of Karnataka should also hike the pay scale of PUC lecturers.

Among the protestors were Dr. N. Ismail, Jagjeevandas Bhandary, Jayaram Shetty, Radhakrishna Rao Kandila, and Prof. Gopinath.
