Over 5,000 students participate in protest rally supporting Hazare

Mangalore, August 17: The students of various colleges boycotted their classes and participated in a protest against the arrest of Anna Hazare, led by the Akhila Bharathiya Vidhyarthi Parishad, the Students’ Federation of India, and other organizations on Aug 17 Wednesday.

The students of Besant College, Shrinivas College, St. Aloysius College, Gokarnanatheshwara College, University College, SDM College, Adarsh College, and Canara College organized a rally from their colleges, met at Jyothi Circle, and together went to the DC’s office. They also submitted a memorandum to the president of India through the DC, demanding the implementation of a strong Lokpal Bill.

According to Vinay Gaonkar, the circle inspector of Bunder Station, nearly 10,000 people participated in the protest and the police were not given any information. He also said that the police received the message at 11:30 a.m. and that the protestors had to conclude their protest at DC office at 12:30 p.m.
