Mulki double murder case: Alphons Saldanha sentenced to life imprisonment

Mulki, January 20, 2026: In connection with the double murder case reported from Muthayyakeri Agindakadu in Elinje village of Mulki taluk, the Second Additional District and Sessions Court on Monday sentenced the accused, Alphons Saldanha, to life imprisonment. The verdict was delivered by Judge Jagadeesh.

The incident took place on April 29, 2020. The accused was charged with murdering his neighbours, Vinny alias Vincent D’Souza and his wife Helen D’Souza alias Helen Rosie Rodrigues, following a dispute over cutting tree branches near his house.

The then Mulki Police Station Inspector, Jayaram D. Gowda, conducted the investigation and filed the charge sheet before the court.

The trial was initially conducted by First Additional District and Sessions Court Judge Mallikarjun. In addition to life imprisonment, the court also imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh on the accused.

The prosecution was argued by government prosecutor Judith Olla Margaret.
