Manipal: Woman assaulted with cement stone, gold chain stolen in house break-in

Manipal, May 14, 2026: An unidentified person allegedly broke into a rented house in the Shanthinagar area near Alevoor Road and attacked a young woman with a cement stone before fleeing with her gold chain, police said.

The injured woman has been identified as Yogita, who was staying in a rented room along with her friends Megha Manjunath Gowda (25), Nagarantha and Gagana. Megha is a native of Koojali village in Kumta.

According to the complaint, the four women had left for night shift duty at an industrial unit in Manipal on the evening of May 12. When they returned around 7.15 am on May 13 after completing their shift, they found the door of their rented room partially open.

On entering the house, they found Yogita lying on the floor in a semi-conscious state with a serious head injury. Police said she was allegedly assaulted with a cement stone. An 8-gram gold chain worn by Yogita was also reported missing.

She was immediately shifted to a hospital and is currently undergoing treatment.

Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to trace the unidentified accused. Further inquiries are underway.
