Mangaluru, July 28, 2025: Mangaluru’s Remona Pereira, a final-year BA student at St. Aloysius College, has set a world record by performing Bharatanatyam continuously for 170 hours over seven days without a break. Her extraordinary feat has been recognized by the Golden Book of World Records. The marathon dance performance was held at the college’s Robert Sequeira Hall.
The previous record stood at 127 hours of continuous Bharatanatyam. By surpassing this with a 170-hour performance, Remona has achieved a remarkable milestone on a global scale.
Remona has been practicing Bharatanatyam for the past 13 years and has already set several records in this classical dance form. For this world record attempt, she prepared for years, practicing the dance for 5–6 hours daily while balancing her studies.
The performance was carried out in the presence of officials from the Golden Book of World Records and was fully documented on camera. Her college administration, faculty, and fellow students extended their full support, expressing immense pride in her accomplishment.
During the record attempt, Remona maintained a strict diet, consuming light food at intervals. She was allowed a 15-minute break every three hours, during which she ate bananas, curd, tender coconut water, and well-cooked soft rice. This dietary regimen was followed for months in preparation.
A medical team, including doctors and ambulance staff, was present at the venue to monitor her health during the performance. Throughout the seven days, Remona performed various Bharatanatyam forms to recorded music, showcasing her dedication and versatility.
