Udupi, Sep 1, 2026: BJP MLA Sunil Kumar on Monday said Hinduism would not suffer any loss if Minister Basavaraj Rayareddy, who reportedly claimed that Islam is superior to other religions, chose to convert to Islam.

Speaking to reporters at the Deputy Commissioner’s office complex, Sunil Kumar said, “We are ready to bid him farewell to the Muslim faith.”

He said criticism or disparagement of Hindutva, Hindu practices and religious activities in an attempt to appease certain sections would not be tolerated.

Government should not obstruct religious activities

Sunil Kumar said people participate in the government’s Bharat Jodo programme, but objections have already been raised over what he alleged was the Congress using the programme for organisational purposes.

He also warned the government against creating obstacles to religious activities.

“If the government creates obstacles to religious activities, the government will be reduced to ashes,” he said, adding that it was inappropriate to create hurdles for festivals such as Ganeshotsava, Navaratri and Datta Jayanti.

Calls for action on Kasturirangan report

On the Kasturirangan report, Sunil Kumar said discussions had been held in the presence of all MLAs from Udupi district.

He urged the district administration and the state government to take steps to address concerns related to the report. He also demanded that Karnataka submit its objections on the issue, as Kerala and Goa have done.
