Mangaluru, Sept 1, 2026: A 19-year-old youth from Andhra Pradesh has gone missing after reportedly falling into the sea while fishing off the Mangaluru coast, police said.

The missing youth has been identified as Bhaktani Kishore, who had come to Mangaluru about a month ago to work in the fishing sector. He was employed on a deep-sea fishing boat owned by Mohammed Faizal.

Fisherman missing

According to a complaint filed by Kishore’s father, the boat carrying 12 fishermen left the Mangaluru fishing harbour at around 3 am on August 23 for deep-sea fishing.

At around 5 am on August 25, while fishing at sea, Kishore was reportedly sitting on the edge of the boat, holding onto a rope. He lost his balance after being hit by a strong wave and fell into the sea.

The other fishermen on the boat, as well as those on nearby fishing boats, were alerted. They searched for Kishore by casting fishing nets into the sea, but he could not be found.

A case has been registered at the Pandeshwar Police Station in connection with the incident.
