Mangaluru’s Adarsh Attavar sets world record with 276 Kg deadlift in Japan

Mangaluru, July 9, 2025: Adarsh Attavar from Mangaluru has set a world record in the deadlift category at the Asia, African, and Pacific International Championship being held in Himeji, Japan, from July 5 to 13. Competing in the 59 kg bodyweight category, he successfully lifted 276 kg, creating a new world record.

He is only the second Indian athlete to achieve a world record in this category, the first being Sajeevan Bhaskaran of the Indian Railways, who set a record in 1993.

Adarsh Attavar is a member of Balanjaneya Gymnasium in Mangaluru and is currently employed with the Indian Railways.
