Udupi, Jun 22, 2026: A fire broke out at a fruit shop located in the APMC market at Adi Udupi on Sunday morning, causing extensive damage to property worth several lakhs of rupees.

According to reports, the fire was first noticed in the morning and quickly spread throughout the shop. The blaze is suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit that ignited boxes containing fruits stored inside the premises.

Personnel from the Udupi Fire and Emergency Services rushed to the spot and launched a firefighting operation. After sustained efforts, they succeeded in bringing the fire under control and preventing it from spreading further.

The incident destroyed fruits, trays and other materials stored inside the shop. Officials estimate the loss at around Rs 5 lakh.
