Mangaluru, Jul 13, 2026: As many as 35,160 pending traffic violation cases were disposed of, and Rs 92.43 lakh was collected in fines during a special drive conducted by the Mangaluru City Police Commissionerate following the Karnataka government’s decision to offer a 50% rebate on pending traffic fines.
The rebate, applicable to traffic violations recorded up to May 2026, was available between June 21 and July 10.
Taking advantage of the concession, motorists paid a total of Rs 92,43,400 through online platforms and by visiting police stations in person, leading to the closure of 35,160 pending cases, Commissioner of Police Sudheer Kumar Reddy CH said.
Of the total cases settled, 18,792 were related to violations detected through AI-enabled traffic cameras, while 16,368 cases involved violations booked by traffic police personnel during enforcement duties.
224 drivers face licence suspension
In a separate enforcement initiative aimed at improving road safety and ensuring stricter compliance with traffic regulations, the Mangaluru City Police initiated action against 224 motorists involved in fatal road accidents and serious traffic rule violations in 2026.
The police seized the driving licences (DLs) of the offenders and forwarded recommendations to the Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) for suspension of the licences.
Based on the recommendations, 137 driving licences have already been suspended, while the remaining cases are under process, police said.
