Mangaluru: Woman held for gold chain thefts, jewellery worth Rs 1.8 lakh recovered

Mangaluru, Sept 13, 2025: A woman identified as Minnath from Ullal has been arrested in connection with two separate gold chain thefts at a garment store and a marriage hall. Police have recovered 18 grams of stolen gold jewellery worth ₹1.8 lakh.

According to police, on June 2, Rahmath from Belma village had visited Sagar Collection in Tokkottu with her children. While taking shelter from the rain near Street Palace Bakery, a burqa-clad woman allegedly snatched a 10-gram gold chain from her daughter’s neck and fled. A case was filed at Ullal police station.


Theft case


Following investigation, police arrested Minnath on September 12 and recovered the stolen ornament. During interrogation, she confessed to another theft on July 9 at a wedding function in KMS Convention Hall, Konaje, where she stole an 8-gram gold chain from a bag. This case had been registered at Konaje police station, and the stolen chain was also recovered.

Minnath was produced before court and remanded to 14 days of judicial custody. Police Commissioner confirmed the recovery of the stolen gold and said further investigation is in progress.
