Mangaluru: Nitte Climate Action Plan – 2024 launched

Mangaluru, November 7, 2024: The Nitte Climate Action Plan was launched at Ambedkar Bhavan in Mangaluru on Thursday 7th November 2024. Dakshina Kannada District Panchayat Chief Operating Officer Shri Anand initiated the program in an environmentally friendly manner by watering the plant.

During his speech, he said that environmental protection is our collective responsibility. It is wrong to think that protecting the environment is not our job but the Govt. body’s job. It is the priority of all citizens. Many programs have been organized by the State and Central Governments considering this Climate Action Plan important. He explained that the organization is providing all kinds of cooperation for this program with the aim of creating environmental awareness among the students.


Dakshina Kannada Public Education Officer Shri Venkatesh S Patgar spoke as the guest of honour pointing the most important thing to do is to create awareness about environmental protection at the school level. Students from both Mangalore South and North departments are participating in this program organized by Nitte (Deemed to be University). He congratulated on the participation of 13 thousand students from 103 schools of Mangalore North division this year.


Karnataka State Pollution Control Board Deputy Environment Officer Dr. Maheshwari Singh spoke and explained the importance of pollution control. He explained with examples how the future can be better shaped by pollution control.


Prof. Dr. M.S. Moodithaya, the chancellor of Nitte (Deemed to be University) who presided over the program, gave an explanation about the programs undertaken by Nitte University for environmental protection. Environmental protection should be embraced as a priority from primary education to higher education. Nitte University is always ready for this. He analysed that Nitte Climate Action Plan is the reward of this wish.
Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) Chief General Manager of Health and Safety Shri Sudrshan and General Manager of Environment Shri Prasanna were the guests.


Prof. Dr. Suma Ballal, Principal Coordinator of Sustainable Development Cell of Nitte University and Vice-Chancellor of the University delivered a welcome speech in the program. Dr. Shrilata Rao, head teacher of Ramanna Shetty Memorial English Medium High School, Mundakure gave the vote of thanks.
Before the assembly program, a short video presentation and demonstration program was conducted by Nitte University on Climate Action Plan. Nitte Institute of Communication Associate Professor Dr. Nesara Kadanakuppe conducted this program.


The Nitte Climate Action Plan will run for a total of 5 years and this is the second year of the programme. 13 thousand students from a total of 103 schools from Mangalore North Zone are participating in this program as of 2024.


Nitte University Technical Research Director Prof. Dr. G. Sriniketan, Susthira Development Cell Member Executive Dr. Vinayak Shet, National Service Scheme Coordinator Sasikumar Shetty were also present in program.
