Mangaluru Aug 15, 2016: Photographers and Videographers from media from across the city boycotted the Independence day celebration at Nehru Maidan, over restriction from allowing inside for security reasons.
Every year photographers and videographers along with reporters from various media arrived at Nehru Maidan to cover the Independence Day celebration but this time media persons were restricted from entering Nehru Maidan to cover the event.
After the checking media person were allowed to cover bur the videographers and photographers were stooped from crossing specific line which irked the senior scribes. Media persons were not informed in advance and irked over the new rule decided to boycott the event.
Media persons alleged that, this is first instance where media persons were restricted from entering Nehru Maidan to cover the event. District administration or the information department should have informed in advance.
After the event Ramanath Rai spoke to the media person and said that DC was new and there were certain protocols which need to be followed and ensured such incidents do not occur in future.
