Mangaluru, July 11, 2026: The Karnataka High Court has quashed the First Information Report (FIR) registered against BJP MLA Vedavyas Kamath and others in connection with the alleged assault on a Congress worker during a religious programme held at Sri Krishna Bhajana Mandir in Shaktinagar, Mangaluru, last year.
The case had been registered at the Kankanady Police Station following the incident that took place in March last year. Challenging the FIR, MLA Vedavyas Kamath had approached the High Court.
During the hearing, senior advocate Arun Shyam appeared on behalf of Kamath and presented arguments before the court. After hearing the matter, the High Court ordered the quashing of the FIR registered against Kamath and the other accused. However, the court order did not specify the legal grounds on which the FIR was quashed.
Reacting to the verdict, Kamath said, "This was a false case filed with political motives and malicious intent. The High Court’s verdict is a victory for justice. Since the Congress government came to power, several false cases have been filed against BJP MLAs and party workers, including me. This judgment once again proves that the truth cannot be hidden for long."
With the High Court’s order, the criminal proceedings against MLA Vedavyas Kamath and the other accused in the assault case have come to an end.
