Mangaluru: Man loses Rs 42.5 lakh in WhatsApp investment scam

Mangaluru, Oct 4, 2025: A man has filed a complaint at the CEN Police Station after losing ₹42.50 lakh by clicking on an investment-related link sent from an unknown WhatsApp number.

According to the complaint, on July 13, an unidentified person using the name Priya Agarwal sent him a link claiming to provide information about investments. After clicking the link, he received another link instructing him to register on an app. A contact number was also provided for further queries. Following the instructions, he uploaded his personal details and registered.


Scam



Lured by promises of high returns, he transferred a total of ₹42.50 lakh in phases from various bank accounts between July 24 and September 19. Later, on September 20, when he was asked through another link to pay an additional ₹12 lakh as tax, he grew suspicious. Upon inquiry, he realized that he had been cheated.

The complainant alleged that unknown individuals defrauded him under the pretext of investments and has urged the police to take necessary action.
