Mangaluru, May 2, 2025: Dakshina Kannada MP Capt Brijesh Chowta has appealed to Union Home Minister Amit Shah to transfer the investigation into the murder of Suhas Shetty to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
In a letter dated May 2, MP Chowta expressed deep concern over what he described as the “shocking and cold-blooded” murder of Suhas Shetty, which occurred in Bajpe on the night of May 1. He described the killing as a “brutal act” carried out “with impunity in public view,” noting that the incident has deeply shaken the coastal Karnataka region.
Chowta emphasized that Shetty’s murder was not an isolated case but part of a broader trend of escalating lawlessness and targeted killings allegedly linked to radical and anti-national groups. He drew comparisons with the 2022 killing of Praveen Nettaru, who was reportedly targeted by members of the now-banned Popular Front of India (PFI).
Referring to the widespread grief and growing calls for justice from Shetty’s family and the local community, Chowta urged the Union Home Minister to order a thorough and unbiased investigation by the NIA. He pointed to possible connections between the murder and elements associated with the banned PFI as justification for central agency involvement.
“The nation cannot allow radical, anti-national, and jihadi forces to gain ground anywhere,” Chowta wrote, calling for swift action not only against the perpetrators but also against those who aided or financed the crime.
Reaffirming his trust in the leadership of the Union government, Chowta called for firm and decisive measures to restore public faith in the rule of law.
