Mangaluru, Oct 29, 2025: Nitte (Deemed to be) University’s constituent institution, K.S. Hegde Hospital, Deralakatte, inaugurated a new state-of-the-art MRI machine, the ‘3-Tesla’, on Wednesday.

K.S. Hegde Hospital has become the first hospital in Mangaluru to install this advanced MRI system. Earlier, the hospital was using a 1.5 Tesla MRI machine, which has now been replaced with the technologically superior 3-Tesla MRI scanner. The new system provides higher accuracy and clarity in detecting diseases affecting the brain, spine, and other parts of the body.

This advanced MRI is particularly beneficial in identifying brain tumors, understanding their spread, and analyzing brain functions. It also enables faster and more precise diagnosis compared to previous models.

The machine features a TV monitor and audio system, allowing patients to watch visuals or listen to music during the scan, making the process more comfortable.

The hospital’s Head of Radiology, Dr. Raghuraj, informed that the machine will be fully functional within a week after completing the magnetic calibration process.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. M. Shantharam Shetty, Pro-Chancellor of Nitte University, said that every patient wishes for a quick recovery from illness, and K.S. Hegde Hospital continuously strives to provide the best and fastest medical care for all types of diseases.

The Chancellor of Nitte University, Mr. N. Vinay Hegde, inaugurated the new MRI unit. Pro-Chancellor (Administration) Vishal Hegde, Director of Finance Rajendra M., Vice-Chancellor Dr. M.S. Moodithaya, Registrar Dr. Harsha Halahalli, KSHEMA Dean Dr. B. Sandeep Rai, and Medical Superintendent Dr. Sumalatha R. Shetty, among others, were present at the event.
