Mangaluru, October 15, 2025: The redevelopment of Mangaluru Junction Railway Station under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS) is nearing completion, with the total project cost now revised to ₹15.80 crore—up from the initial estimate of Rs. 10.58 crore, according to the Palakkad Division of Southern Railway.
The station has undergone significant upgrades aimed at enhancing passenger amenities, accessibility, and overall infrastructure. A new entrance arch and a widened approach road—with a footpath, kerb wall, and a minor bridge—have been added to improve connectivity as reported by The Hindu.
The façade of the station building has been modernised using Glass Fibre Reinforced Concrete (GFRC) panels and sunshade elevations. A new porch has also been constructed at the terminal building.
To improve functionality and aesthetics, the roofing of the station and the crew booking office has been replaced with ceramic tiles in the traditional Mangaluru tile pattern. Outdated windows have been replaced with uPVC units.
The booking office and concourse areas have also been upgraded to offer better passenger convenience.
Platform improvements include the installation of 1,450 square metres of Kota stone flooring, 650 square metres of coping tile work, and 17 new shelters—10 on Platform 1 and 7 on Platform 2.
Additional infrastructure developments include a new parcel office, a waiting hall, and expansion of the second floor of the crew booking office.
Circulating and parking areas have been strengthened with RCC (Reinforced Cement Concrete) and RR (Random Rubble) retaining walls to accommodate increased traffic and future expansion.
Extensive electrical, plumbing, and telecommunication work has been carried out across key areas including the station façade, porch, concourse, booking office, parcel office, and waiting hall.
Tile work on the staircases of the Foot Over Bridge has also been completed.
The Palakkad Division stated that only minor finishing work remains, and the station will soon be fully equipped with modern infrastructure and improved facilities for passengers.
