Nandan Nilekani to Head Task Force on Exam Reforms, Announces PM Modi

New Delhi, July 26, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday announced the formation of a high-powered task force, headed by Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani, to recommend reforms aimed at making India’s examination system more reliable, transparent and technology-driven.

In a video message, PM Modi said the panel would submit its report at the earliest, based on which the government would implement measures to strengthen the credibility of future examinations.

The announcement comes a day after Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned following protests over examination paper leaks.

The task force will focus on structural reforms and the greater use of technology in conducting examinations. Besides Nilekani, the panel includes former ISRO chairman S. Somanath, former Intelligence Bureau director Tapan Deka, IIT Madras director V. Kamakoti, former Education Secretary Anita Karwal, and logistics expert Amrit Lal Meena.

PM Modi said the government had already initiated strict action against those involved in paper leaks, including setting up fast-track courts and introducing legislation with tougher legal provisions. He added that the new task force would play a key role in ensuring a secure and transparent examination system for students.
