Mangaluru, June 1, 2025: The Second Additional District and Sessions Court of Dakshina Kannada on Saturday granted bail to Rahul and K. Sushanth, two accused in the mob lynching of Ashraf, a Kerala native, near Kudupu on April 27.

While granting bail, the court expressed serious concerns over procedural lapses, including a delay in filing the FIR and inconsistencies between the initial complaint and the police report. These discrepancies were cited as significant factors influencing the decision.

The case had previously sparked widespread controversy, with allegations of mishandling by the police during the investigation. Following these allegations, three police personnel, including an Inspector, were suspended for dereliction of duty.

The lynching incident drew nationwide outrage after videos of the attack were circulated online, leading to calls for justice. Investigations into the case are ongoing, and further legal proceedings are expected in the coming days.
