Mangaluru: 14-year-old student ends life after posting emotional message on social media

Mangaluru, Sep 9, 2025: A tragic incident was reported near Bajilakere in the city on Sunday, when a 14-year-old student, Khushi, ended her life by jumping from the terrace of a residential apartment.

Originally from Banaras, Uttar Pradesh, Khushi had been residing in Bajilakere with her family. On September 7 afternoon, she went to a temple and later accompanied her sister and a friend to the terrace of their apartment. While conversing with them, she suddenly leapt off the terrace before their eyes. Seriously injured, she was rushed to a private hospital by residents, but she did not respond to treatment and succumbed.

The incident occurred near the Golden Chamber building, leaving locals in shock. Before taking the extreme step, Khushi had posted a status on social media that read: “When my own family doesn’t understand me, how can I expect others to?”

According to preliminary police investigation, Khushi was a bright student who consistently scored good marks. She was fond of making reels and sharing them on social media. However, of late, she had reportedly been battling mental stress, depression, and a lack of emotional support and understanding from her family, which might have led her to the decision.

Bunder Police have registered a case and are conducting further investigations.
