Udupi, May 31, 2026: The Lokayukta’s two-day raid on the Udupi Urban Development Authority (UUDA) office has uncovered 260 files that were allegedly kept pending without valid reasons and 74 other files suspected of procedural violations.
Acting on public complaints regarding delays in file disposal, a team led by Lokayukta DSP Halamurthy Rao conducted a surprise inspection at the UUDA office on Friday. The operation, which began at 3 pm and continued until 10.30 pm, resulted in the detection of 200 pending files.

The raid resumed on Saturday from 10.30 am to 6.30 pm, during which officials found an additional 60 pending files. According to the Lokayukta, all 260 files relate to 2024 and 2025 and had remained undisposed despite being due for action.
The inspection also revealed 74 files in which rules were allegedly violated. These include approvals related to individual sites, layouts and land conversion cases, where officials are suspected of granting clearances without conducting mandatory site inspections.
DSP Halamurthy Rao said the investigation would examine whether the files were deliberately delayed to facilitate bribery or for other improper reasons. The role and intent of the officials and staff involved in keeping the files pending will be thoroughly investigated, he added.
