Mangalore, Dec 29, 2012: Former union minister B Janardhan Poojary has said 5 kg of rice will be distributed to as many as 5000 women at Sri Gokarnanatheshwara Temple in Mangalore on January 1, 2013 in memory of the Delhi gang rape victim.


Speaking to reporters at the Press Club on Dec 29, Saturday, Poojari said the whole nation  is grieving the death of the victim and added the nation must salute the girl for the courage with which she battled death for nearly 13 days.

He urged the Delhi Chief Minister to set up a memorial for the Delhi gang rape victim so that the incident will ever be remembered and at the same time make youngsters more cautious.


There is a need for a change in the mindset of the people, he said adding such incidents will never occur if every man treats women with respect.


To a question on the Sowjanya case, Poojari informed that he had contributed Rs one lakh to the family of  Belthangady rape victim Sowjanya. 


Congress leaders Vijay Kumar Shetty, Kallige Tharnath Shetty, Suresh Ballal and Mohammed Badruddin were present at the press meet.
