Man attempts suicide by consuming poison in front of judge at Puttur Court

Puttur, January 22, 2026: A shocking incident was reported at the 5th Additional Court in Puttur, where a man allegedly attempted suicide by consuming poison in front of the judge.

The man has been identified as Ravi (35), a resident of Kavu Maniyadka in Puttur. Ravi and his wife, Vidyashree, were reportedly involved in a marital dispute.

Two days ago, Ravi had allegedly tried to murder his wife by strangling her, following which the husband-wife dispute reached the police station. A case was likely to be registered at the Sampya Rural Police Station on Thursday, and divorce talks were reportedly underway between the couple. Ravi had been asked by the police to appear at the Sampya police station on the same day.

However, instead of going to the police station, Ravi directly arrived at the Puttur court परिसर and consumed poison in front of the judge. After ingesting the poison, he began vomiting inside the court premises.

People present at the spot immediately rushed Ravi to the Puttur Government Hospital. It is said that he consumed a pesticide used for spraying in arecanut plantations. After the ban on endosulfan, a pesticide called “Karate,” which is currently available in the market, was allegedly consumed by him.

Ravi’s condition is reported to be critical, and he was shifted from Puttur to a hospital in Mangaluru for further treatment.

Following the suicide attempt, the estranged couple were seen together, and both Ravi and Vidyashree were taken to Mangaluru in the same ambulance.
