Madrasas say no to government interference in their affairs

Mangalore, Nov 19, 2011: Dakshina Kannada District Madrasa Management Committee, Dakshina Kannada District Samasta Madrasa Teachers Association, SKSSF Dakshina Kannada District Committee, and Madrasa Hitarakshana Samiti jointly staged a protest in front of the DC’s office on Nov 19 Saturday against the proposed government interference in the administration of the madrasas, which are Islamic religious schools.


Delivering the protest address, Hyder Dharimi Kalladka said that running madrasas is the religious and constitutional right of Muslims and any government interference in madrasa affairs will anger the Muslim community. He said that the protest is being held to convey the message to the government that Muslims will not allow any government interference in their right to live according to their religion.

Muffathish Umar Dharmini read the memorandum, which was later submitted to the DC. Sirajuddin Faizi, the managing secretary of Bappalige SKSSF, delivered the introductory address. 


Addressing the gathering, T. M. Shaheed Sullia said that when Veerappa Moily was the chief minister of Karnataka, a number of development projects were launched in favor of minorities.


The Shaadi Mahal and other significant structures were constructed when he was in office. However, the successive governments were least bothered about development. The Muslim community will not accept any state interference in madrasa affairs, he added.
Criticizing Minorities’ Commission Chairman Anwar Manipady, he said that he has forgotten his responsibility toward his community after coming to power. 


Stating that masjids and dargahs do not have the required facilities in spite of which they educate 35,000 students. 


Madrasa teachers, administrative committee members, parents, and students participated in the protest. 


Abdul Khader Dharimi Kukkila, Majeed Suralpady, Azeez Dharimi Kallega, and others spoke on the occasion. Salim Handel of the Hitarakshana Vedike delivered the welcome address. SKSSF President Abbas Dharimi Kelinja presided.
