Udupi, October 15, 2025:  Chikkamagaluru MP Kota Srinivas Poojary on Tuesday asked the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to commence the flyover work at Katpady junction on the National Highway 66 in Udupi district from next month.

Speaking at a meeting called in Udupi to review the progress of national highway projects in Udupi district, Mr. Poojary said that necessary measures should be taken to divert the traffic on the service roads during the construction.

NH-MP-Meet

Shifting of electric poles on the highway to facilitate the construction should start from November 15, he said adding that tree cutting should begin at the earliest with the permission of the Forest Department.

The MP asked the NHAI to expedite the ongoing Santhekatte underpass project and flyover project at Ambalpady on the NH 66 in Udupi.

Mr. Poojary said that street lights should be installed on the highway near the Uchchila Mahalaxmi temple.

The MP said that he had instructed in the last meeting to carry out scientific works in the 22 black spots identified on the NH 66 to reduce vehicle accidents and make them accident-free zones. But in reality, action has been taken only in two such spots in Kaup and Padubidri. The pending works should be done on priority, he said.

“The highway maintenance works should not be limited to just toll collection,” he said.

Mr. Poojary said that six bus shelters removed for widening the NH 169 A between Phulkeri Bypass and Murattangady Pre-University College should be re-constructed. The bus shelters were under Sanur Gram Panchyat area in Karkala taluk.

Udupi Deputy Commissioner T.K. Swaroopa, MLAs Yashpal A. Suvarna, Gurme Suresh Shetty, and Kiran Kumar Kodgi, District Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar, and NHAI’s Mangaluru Office Project Director Abdullah Mohammed Azmi attended the meeting.
