Mangalore, Nov 17, 2012: The Mangalore Coastal Round Table 190 (MCRT 190) in collaboration with Asha Kiran of Chikmagalur and Roman and Catherine School for the Blind of Mangalore will take visually challenged children on a treasure hunt on Nov 18, Sunday.
The MCRT 190 has been organizing this event for the past 2 years.
Giving out details of this year’s treasure hunt, MCRT 190 Vice Chairman Neil Rodrigues said that Yathish Baikampady and Isaac Vas have designed the route, which will be translated into Braille by Calistus D’Sa, principal of Roman and Catherine School for the Blind.
Visually challenged kids from the two schools will be assigned cars and drivers and they will have to guide the driver of the car from beginning to end. The car that solves the largest number of clues in the shortest possible time will be declared the winner.
During the last two years, the treasure hunt included a day in the park and a visit to the beach. This year, the children will get a chance to spend some time at the Gandhi Park in Gandhi Nagar.
Mr. Rodrigues said that a number of local businessman have provided the fund required for this event, which has helped MCRT 190 provide the schools with educational tools such as JAWS software, which helps visually challenged children to use the computer.
Around 60 blind children are expected to take part in this event. Car owners who would like to take part in the event must pre-register by calling 9611135214 / 9980281979. There is no registration fee. Participants only need a car and a will to make a blind child feel special and happy.
