Mangaluru, January 13, 2026: Mulki police have invoked the Karnataka Control of Organised Crime Act (KCOCA) against three individuals in connection with an alleged extortion and assault on a farmer at Angaragudde.
City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy identified the accused as Shyam Sundar Shetty of Kerekadu, Akash Poojary, and Suveen.
According to police records, Suveen is facing one murder case, two attempted murder cases, one dacoity case, and a case related to ganja possession. Akash has pending cases for attempted murder, caste-based abuse, and obstructing a government official. Multiple cases against both accused remain unresolved.
Given the extensive criminal history of the accused, the Mulki police registered the case under KCOCA and have been instructed to take further legal action, the commissioner added.
The incident reportedly occurred on January 1, when the accused attacked Shamsu Saheb—a Kambala buffalo owner from Angaragudde—and demanded Rs 50,000. After he refused to pay, the accused allegedly assaulted Shamsu Saheb and his son.
Following the attack, Shamsu Saheb’s son, Sahabuddin, filed a complaint with the Mulki police. Authorities conducted a detailed investigation before registering the case under KCOCA, officials said.
