Lions Club Shirva holds Kesaru Gadde Sports event

Udupi, Nov 7, 2011 : Lions Club Shirva organized a kesaru gadde sports event on Nov 7 Monday, the first event of its kind to be held in Shirva.

A procession from Shirva Bus Stand to Nyarma Hosamane Field, the venue of the competition, marked the beginning of the event, which attracted a huge crowd of 2,500 people.

The chief guest was Ln Suresh Prabhu. Ln Madhusudhan Hegde, the first vice district governor, inaugurated the event in the traditional manner by unfolding the pingara. The first event was a buffalo race.

Esteemed guests of the event were Katpadi Shankar Poojary, the president of Udupi district panchayat; Ln Devdas Hebbar, the convener of Udupi taluk panchayat; Vanitha Shenoy, the president of Shirva Gram Panchayat; Ln Shridhar Shenava, the coordinator of the district governor’s programme; David D’Souza of Prince Point in Shirva; Ln. Suhas Hegde, the region chairperson; Ln. K. Sathyashankar Shetty, the zonal chair person; and Ln. Chandrahas Suvarna, the DC for agriculture and rural development.

Ln. Melwyn Aranha felicitated the chief guest.


Events such as tug of war, throw ball, volley ball, bomb in the city, Kandod Bajjai Naaduni games, and running race were held. The simplest traditional meal of the DK coast, comprising pickle, chutne, and ganji, was served.


The valedictory was held at 5:30 p.m. Ln. Lawrence D’Souza, the district coordinator of LCIF, presided over the event, and Ln. H. N. Shivakumar, the second vice district governor, distributed the prizes.
