Kasargod: Three of a family die after consuming acid, one critical

Kasargod, Aug 28, 2025: In a tragic incident at Parakkayi near Ambalathara, three members of a family died after allegedly consuming acid, while another is battling for life.

The deceased have been identified as Gopi (58), his wife Indira (54), and their son Ranjesh (34). Their younger son, Rakesh (27), is undergoing treatment in critical condition at Kannur Government Medical College Hospital.

Preliminary investigations point to financial distress as the reason behind the extreme step. The incident came to light around 3 am when Ranjesh reportedly called a relative seeking urgent help. Though locals and relatives rushed them to the hospital, three had already succumbed.

Sources said Ranjesh and Rakesh, who had worked in Dubai, returned two years ago to start a business, which later failed, leaving the family in heavy debt. The brothers eventually turned to daily wage work.

Locals recalled that the family had recently visited relatives and gone on pilgrimages.

Ambalathara police have registered a case and are investigating.
