Manipal, January 11, 2026: Dr. Thumbay Moideen, Founder and President of the Thumbay Group, Dubai, has been selected for the New Year Award 2026, jointly instituted by the Academy of General Education (AGE), Manipal, in collaboration with Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), MEMG India Pvt. Ltd., Manipal Media Network Ltd. and the Dr. TMA Pai Foundation.

The award honours distinguished individuals from the coastal districts of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada who have made outstanding contributions to society and community development, particularly in the fields of education, healthcare and social service.

Dr. Thumbay Moideen was chosen in recognition of his visionary leadership in building a globally integrated ecosystem spanning healthcare, medical education, research, diagnostics, and community service. Since founding the Thumbay Group in 1997, he has played a key role in establishing academic hospitals, healthcare institutions and Gulf Medical University, with a focus on accessible healthcare, quality education, and international collaboration.

A prominent Non-Resident Indian in the Gulf, Dr. Moideen is widely respected as a global voice from the Beary community and as a leading Muslim entrepreneur and educationist. His journey from coastal Karnataka to building institutions across the Middle East and beyond has been cited as an example of diaspora leadership rooted in social responsibility.

Accepting the honour, Dr. Moideen said the recognition was deeply meaningful, adding that he viewed the award as a reflection of collective effort by committed teams and value-driven institutions working for societal good.

Over the years, Dr. Moideen has expanded the Thumbay Group into a multi-sector organisation with a strong emphasis on academic medicine and research-driven healthcare. His initiatives have supported thousands of healthcare professionals and students from over 111 nationalities.
