Mangalore Today News Network

Kasargod, Dec 29, 2012 :  Police have arrested three persons from Kanhangad in connection with the alleged gang rape of a  girl hailing from Kanyana in Bantwal.  It was earlier reported that the three allegedly raped the girl at Kumble.

areest 1The arrested Mohammad Kunhi alias Asgar, (24), Hussain (26) and Unais(35) have however, reportedly denied having raped the girl. Police have already arrested an auto driver named Ganesh hailing from Hosabettu in connection with the case.

The incident was learnt to have taken place on December 24. The girl who was in love with youth from Uppala identified as Asgar. According to reports, on December 24, Asgar had invited the girl to Uppala   where she was taken in a car and reportedly raped by Asgar and three others who later abandoned her near Kumble railway station.

Later, an auto driver named Ganesh (24) who came that way, on seeing the desperate girl, expressed his willingness to help her and then took her to an isolated area to once again rape her before leaving her at the Kumble bus stand. Reportedly, there were two others along with Ganesh.

Locals who saw the girl in a terrible state on December 25 afternoon, informed the police and she was admitted to a hospital in Kumble. It is learnt, the victim has told the police that she was raped by seven persons.

However, the version of the accused seem to be contradicting. It is learnt, during interrogation, the accused said they met the girl in a mall on December 20 and had received a call from her on December 24 that she was in Uppala. It is learnt, they went to a water park in Mangalore with her and left for Uppala where the girl had asked them to drop her at the railway station saying she had to meet a relative.

They also said they came to know about the allegations leveled on them only through the media and therefore had switched off their mobile phones out of fear.
Investigations are in progress,
