Kasargod: Eight-year-old girl drowns in rainwater-filled pit while playing

Kasargod, June 16, 2025: In a heartbreaking incident, an eight-year-old girl lost her life after accidentally falling into a rainwater-filled pit while playing with friends at Onibagilu near Badoor on Monday evening.

The deceased has been identified as Fatima Hiba, daughter of Vinnu Muhammad and Khadeejath Kubra. The tragedy occurred around 5 PM when Fatima, a Class 3 student at Badoor Padu A.L.P. School, was playing outside with her classmates.

Eyewitnesses reported that she slipped into the pit, which had filled with rainwater. Hearing the cries of the other children, locals and family members rushed to the scene and rescued her from the water. She was immediately taken to a hospital in Kumble, where doctors declared her brought dead.

Fatima’s body has been kept at the Kasaragod General Hospital mortuary, where a post-mortem will be conducted before it is handed over to her grieving family.

The local community is in shock and mourning the tragic loss of the young girl.
