Karkala: Mother arrested for strangling daughter to death

Karkala, Oct 4, 2025: A shocking incident occurred in Hirgana village of Karkala taluk, where a mother allegedly strangled her daughter to death following a heated argument.

The deceased young woman has been identified as Shifnaz, daughter of Sheikh Mustafa and Gulzar Banu, residents of Hirgana village, Karkala.

Strangled to death

According to police sources, Shifnaz had informed her mother that she was going to Udupi to meet a young man she was in love with. Her mother, Gulzar Banu, reportedly opposed this and, in a fit of rage, allegedly strangled her daughter.

Initially, the death was treated with suspicion, and an unnatural death case was registered at Karkala City Police Station. However, a post-mortem conducted at KMC Hospital in Manipal confirmed that the cause of death was strangulation.

Based on the report, the police registered a murder case and arrested the mother, 45-year-old Gulzar Banu. She has been produced before the court.

Karkala City Police are continuing further investigations into the case.
