Karkala: Father and son arrested for illegal stone quarrying using explosives

Karkala, Feb 6, 2026: The city police have arrested a father and son for allegedly conducting illegal stone quarrying with explosives at Nakre Hankradi in Kukkundur village, without the necessary permits.
The incident came to light on January 21 around 5 PM, when Ravichandra and his son Pavan were reportedly using explosives to break stone boulders at the site. Acting on credible information, PSI Muralidhara Naik of Karkala city police, along with his team, carried out a raid at the location and apprehended the duo.
The accused have been identified as T. Ravichandra (55) and his son Pavan Kumar (31), residents of Ayyappa Nagar. They were presented in court, which remanded them to judicial custody for 14 days.
A case has been registered at Karkala city police station under sections of the Explosives Act, Explosive Substances Act, and the Indian Penal Code (IPC) in connection with the incident. Further investigation is ongoing.
