Speaking about the importance of a fire station along NH17, she said that there is an oil and fuel storage terminal located near APMC yard in Baikampady and that highly inflammable liquids are transported from Baikampady to several places across the district. She added that there is an LPG bottling plant, a timber yard, and an edible oil refining unit and that crude oil is transported through a pipeline from the port to MRPL. Besides, thousands of people work in the industrial area, owing to which the need for a fire station in Baikampady area is great, she stated.

Regarding the fishing harbour, she said that the government has earmarked Rs. 100 crore for the construction of small fishing harbours in coastal areas in its 2010 – 12 budget, owing to which a fishing harbour should be constructed in Kulai at the earliest possible.

Speaking about the need to give international status to Bajpe Airport, she said that this airport is still not on the international map although it operates international flights.

Referring to the pathetic condition of the city roads and the lack of footpaths, she said that pedestrians find it difficult to walk along the roads and complain frequently. The authorities, therefore, need to take up the construction of footpaths on a priority basis. She also said that the highways are in need of repair because they have been completely damaged in the rains. She also said that the Mangalore to Bangalore highway in Shiradi needs to be dealt with immediately.

Expressing the KCCI’s satisfaction at seeing pre-paid auto booths in Mangalore Central Railway Station and KSRTC bus station, she said that the same facility needs to be extended to the Mangalore Junction Station.

She also said that the KCCI will urge the state government to announce load-shedding hours.
