Mangalore, Aug 22, 2013 : A meeting held under the aegis of the Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industries and the Udupi District Railway Yatri Sangha at the KCCI Chamber Hall on August 21, Wednesday, has placed forth a demand to fulfill the various railway demands of the region.
The meeting deliberated in length on the various problems faced by railway passengers of coastal Karnataka. Prominently the meeting discussed the need to have a separate Mangalore Railway Division, to run the Vascodagama-Mangalore passenger train during morning hours and to give a stop for the Mangalore-Madagaon Inter-City Express (T26A) train at Ankola, Honnavar, Kumta, Bhatkal, Kundapur, Udupi and Suratkal.
It also demanded a stop for the CSTM Mangalore Superfast train at Dadar, to introduce a weekly train via Hassan on the Bangalore-Mangalore route and to run the Yashwanthpur-Karwar train on a daily basis.
It was also decided to submit memorandum to the railway minister and authorities concerned and to organize a united movement to fulfill the demands.
There was also heard a demand to run a train on the Mangalore-BC Road-Ujire,Padubidri, Karkala-Ujire route.
GG Mohandas Prabhu, former KCCI President, placed forth a proposal to name the Mangalore division that will be separated from the Palakkad division as West Coast Division and then consider it as Mangalore Zone.
The meeting felt that the time was opportune to place forth a demand for a separate division and zone.
RL Dayas, President of the Railway Yatri Sangha said the lobbying by Keralites was intense as far as railway needs were concerned and that elected representatives from Karnataka did not have the determination like their Kerala counterparts.
